Distribution lists on the phone!

Hi all,

If like me, you like to forward emails to defined groups of people but hate Apple for not including this on the iPhone handsets, fear not - I have an alternative.

Before you continue, let me make you aware, there will be a small cost attached to this, but its more an investment then a cost!

Here is what you have to do:

1) Buy a domain - this is a link to the cheapest and best domain re-seller.
2) Register your new domain with the FREE Google Apps service here Google Apps FREE

Steps one and two are self explanatory and the individual websites will take you through easy steps for completing this element of the task. Once complete, log into Google Apps for your domain

3) Click Users & Groups at the top of the page > then click on Groups
4) Click Create a New Group
5) Give your group a name (i.e. I have family@mydomain.com which I called FAMILY)
6) Select an email address for this group (i.e. FAMILY@Mydomain.com)
7) Within Access Levels tick the box: which allows anyone on the Internet to post messages
8) Click Create New Group
9) Enter the email addresses of all of the people who are to be included in the group and click add
10) TEST IT - send an email from ANY External email account (i.e. not one from the google apps account) to xxx@yourdomain.com (but please be aware that Google are clever and have designed the system so that the sender does not get the email even if the are included in the group)

11) Save this new Email address to your iPhone (I have named all my groups with the prefix 0: so that they appear at the bottom of my contacts list eg 0: Family, 0:Friends

DONE!

let me know how you get on!
